It’s that time of the year again when I’m leaving my beloved hometown and return to my motherland, or back to the roots as some people would prefer calling it. In any way whatsoever, it means that it is high time to strut my stuff and BALIK KAMPUNG!! Well, not that much of a kampung anyways as its Singapore, for goodness sake. So should I use the term “balik bandar” instead? Or maybe opt for a more technical term “balik metropolis?” I guess I’ll leave that for you ardent readers to decide (don’t forget to AFUNDI Shaiful ok?) .
Raya this year won’t be the same, I guess, because raya day itself would coincide as the 100th day since my beloved grandmother passed away. Previously she would be one of the only reasons why I’m so eager to get my ass back in the lion city, but now that she’s gone, I even contemplated of spending my aidilfitri at home in KL. But mom tried to cheer me up by saying that at least I have a new mp3 player waiting there, as I have been targeting to get the new Sony network walkman while in Singapore this time around. Well my friends, that is no consolation considering the pain that I have to bear as she was the closest person to me after mom. Only when mom told me that she would’ve wanted us to celebrate raya in Singapore that I decided to proceed with the yearly tradition anyways. But I’m only going to be there for a mere five days compared to the average two weeks that I used to practice before. So with a heavy luggage (including my guitar and amps) and an even heavier heart, I’m going to take the 450km drive from Seri Hartamas to Pasir Ris at 0530 hours (that’s only like three hours away!). Better start packing and get my ass to bed for a bit.
Before it’s too late I wanna wish Deepavali Valthukel to my hindu friends, enjoy the festival of light in all its glory and colours! To my muslim brothers and sisters, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri…I ask for your forgiveness if terkasar bahasa/salah cakap or any wrongdoings whatsoever in my part. In short I want to wish all of you (no matter race nor religion) happy holidays! Have fun, drive safe and abuse the curries and rendangs cos you know u want to! ;p
